Government
Egyptians had a king who ruled over everyone else. Kings were usually a general who had taken over the power or children of kings. For example, the first king of Egypt was a general called Narmer or another example is King Tut who was the son of a king.
After some time the kings started calling themselves pharaohs. They were believed to be children of Gods. Pharaohs ruled over everyone, the rich, the poor, the slaves, the priests, the traders, etc. They were considered to be the political and religious leaders. They owned all of the land, made laws, collected tax and defended Egypt against invaders. Pharaohs ruled over upper and lower Egypt. They represented gods on earth and they performed rituals and built temples. |
